Implant Placement and Restoration

Treatment with dental implants is completed over two phases. In the first phase, known as the placement phase, one or more small titanium posts are implanted in your jaw. The number of posts involved in your procedure is determined by the number of teeth you’re replacing. This phase of treatment will be completed by an oral surgeon recommended by Dr. Mackie.

Your procedure is followed by a healing period, during which your implant(s) will have time to bond with your jawbone. Once this process is complete, you’ll return to our Boerne office to have your brand new prosthetic teeth permanently attached. The beauty of dental implants is that they can be used in a variety of cases. Maybe you just need to replace a single tooth, or maybe you need to replace a full row of teeth. Implants are versatile enough to be used for both of these cases, and for everything in between. Once your prosthesis has been attached to your implant(s), you can leave our office with your restorative procedure complete and your smile’s health and functionality restored.

Are Dental Implants Right for Me?

For anyone considering dental implants, determining whether or not you are a qualified candidate is the biggest hurdle to treatment. Because it takes a certain amount of bone to support one or more implant posts, not every patient will be a good candidate. For patients who don’t have enough bone, a bone grafting procedure may increase a patient’s bone density and reverse this. For other patients, though, traditional dentures will be a better choice.

“I dealt with dental problems most of my life. As a child, my parents and I visited the dentist office for regular check-ups, and 9 times out of 10, I would have to return because of some dental problem. As I grew older, it was even more important for me to continue my cleaning and regular check-ups, but I began to realize that my dental issues never went away because I only got “patch-up” work done from the many dentists I encountered.
