CEREC, or chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics, allows Dr. Mackie to prepare for, manufacture, and place your dental crown, all from the comfort of our state-of-the-art office. One day dentistry saves you time — but we would never sacrifice quality for temporary convenience. In addition to speeding up the process for dental crowns, CEREC improves treatment planning for a crown that may fit better overall. And studies show that dental crowns prepared using CEREC technology last just as long as those prepared by a ceramist in a separate lab.
How does CEREC work? The method uses digital imagery and an in-house milling machine to create your dental crown in under an hour. First, Dr. Mackie prepares for your dental crown by selecting the shade that will best match your surrounding teeth. He then removes all decay and reshapes the tooth to make room for the new crown. Once the tooth has been prepared, digital impressions are taken of it and all surrounding oral structures. These digital images eliminate the need for messy impressions that induce gagging in many patients. What’s more, they’re highly accurate, improving your dentist’s ability to create a crown that fits your tooth just like it should.
Once preparation is complete and the images are ready, Dr. Mackie enters all of this information into the CEREC milling machine. Your crown is created from a single block of porcelain in under half an hour! Once it’s complete, your dentist will check to make sure the crown fits and feels just like it should before its final placement.
